Acer has announced the departure of its CEO and President Gianfranco Lanci after a Board meeting approved his resignation pursuant to divergent views about the company's direction and future. The announcement follows a warning issues by the company earlier about watered down financial results against previously stated expectations.
A statement by the company said that Lanci held different views from a majority of the board members and despite several months of dialogue, could not arrive at a consensus. “They placed different levels of importance on scale, growth, customer value creation, brand position enhancement, and on resource allocation and methods of implementation,” the statement read.
Acer Chairman JT Wang said the PC would remain at the core of Acer's business, even as the company moves “into the new mobile device market, where we will invest cautiously and aim to become one of the leading players.” He also assumed Lanci's role in the interim, as the company looks for a successor.
Acer also announced that Deputy President of Acer EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) Walter Deppeler would take over from Lanci as the new Acer EMEA President, one of the computer maker's most significant markets in terms of notebook sales. |
