Apple said the iPad would be available at all 221 US Apple retail stores and most Best Buy stores this Saturday, April 3, starting nine a.m.
The iPad is positioned as a product that will allow users to browse the web, read and send email, enjoy and share photos, watch HD videos, listen to music, play games, and read ebooks – all common tasks that they currently do on their netbooks – through a a multi-touch interface, which Apple says is “revolutionary.” Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO said, “iPad connects users with their apps and content in a far more intimate and fun way than ever before. We can’t wait for users to get their hands and fingers on it this weekend.”
 Apple said its retail stores will offer free personal setup service to every customer who buying the iPad at the store. The service would help buyers customize their new iPad – helping them set up email, load favorite apps from the App Store, etc. The stores are also to host workshops for customers to learn more about the iPad. Apple says that at 0.5 inches thick and weighing 1.5 pounds, the iPad is thinner and lighter than any laptop or netbook.
iPad Pricing iPad's Wi-Fi models start retailing this Saturday, April 3, for $499 for 16GB, $599 for 32GB, and $699 for 64GB. The Wi-Fi + 3G models are scheduled to hit the market only by late April, priced much higher at $629 for 16GB, $729 for 32GB and $829 for 64GB. In the US, the iPad will sell at the Apple Store online, Apple’s retail stores, most Best Buy stores, select authorized resellers and campus bookstores. Apple said that on the day of the launch, the iBooks app for the iPad including Apple’s iBookstore would be available as a free download from the App Store in the US. |
