On fool's day, Digitimes had quoted unnamed sources as saying that Dell and HP had curtailed investments into 10-inch netbooks, and would instead look at the more profitable 11-inch AMD platform. Other reports too echoed the same news resulting in a louder din.
In a blogpost on its communities blog, Dell today set the record straight, saying that it is committed to the netbook segment and that the Inspiron Mini 10 netbook “remains an important member of our mobile platform portfolio and is a great secondary companion device as people appreciate the compact size and the ability to stay connected on the go.”
Dell said it offering netbooks with built in Mobile Broadband, citing the example of week at CTIA, where T-Mobile announced its first netbook offering to be the Dell Mini 10 that would be available through T-Mobiles online and select stores. It said Netbooks are an “excellent platform for innovation around purpose-built devices that fit perfectly between the Smartphone and a full-featured laptop” and said that the “Dell Inspiron Mini 10 is not going anywhere.” |
