French digital security company Gemalto has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Google, HTC, Motorola, and Samsung for using its innovations in the Android operating system, Dalvik virtual machine and associated development tools and products.
Gemalto said that the patented technologies named in the lawsuit were developed in the 1990s at Gemalto's research and development facilities in Texas, and are “fundamental to running software, developed in a high level programming language such as Java, on a resource constrained device.” It said that it pioneered and contributed to JavaCard. Gemalto follows in the footsteps of Oracle, which has also sued Google over alleged patent infringement with the Android platform. Research firm IDC had recently said that Android would be the second most popular mobile operating system in the world by 2013, following Symbian. |
