Google's latest acquisition is that of Labpixies, a company that makes widgets for Google's popular iGoogle and a host of other popular Internet properties such as Facebook, My Yahoo, hi5, myspace, orkut, Android, and even the iPhone. The cost of the acquisition was speculated by the media but not revealed.
Labpixies was one of the first developers to create gadgets for iGoogle. Over the years both companies have worked closely on a variety of projects, including the launch of a number of global OpenSocial based gadgets. “Recently, we decided that we could do more if we were part of the same team, and as such, we're thrilled to announce the acquisition of Labpixies,” Google said in a blogpost.
The Labpixies team will be based in Google's Tel Aviv office, anchoring the company's iGoogle efforts across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, Google said.
