Google is reportedly dropping the use of the Windows operating system, in a company-wide endeavor to improve security. It may be recalled that Google was hacked into by hackers who leveraged vulnerabilities in Microsoft's software.
A report by the Financial Times said that Google had taken the step citing security concerns and on account of vulnerabilities in Microsoft's software that lead to it and almost two-dozen other companies being the victims of hacking by Chinese hackers.
The report said employees were now being moved to the Mac OS X on Apple's Mac computers, or Linux on their PCs. Google also has an operating system of its own under development, the Chrome OS, which the report speculated would be ultimately used within the company for its business. Terming the policy as “semi formal”, the report said that post the hacking incident, a number of employees preferred to move off Windows based machines and onto Mac computers. |
