Google has introduced a weather layer on Google Maps that displays current temperatures and weather conditions for locations around the globe with a view to facilitate the planning process of outdoor activities, be it an overseas trip or a picnic at a local park.
The weather layer can be accessed by hovering over the widget in the upper right corner of Google Maps and selecting the weather layer from the list of options. When zoomed out, a map is displayed with the current weather conditions from weather.com for various locations, with icons denoting the sun, clouds, rain etc. Cloud coverage is available courtesy Google's partners at the US Naval Research Lab. Day or night at the current time are also denoted by sun and moon icons.
A more detailed weather information is available through a single click on the weather icon for a particular city, which provides data like current humidity and wind conditions and a forecast for the next four days. Units of of wind speed are customizable (Mph/KMph/Mps) and temperature (F/C), and clouds can be enabled or disabled when zoomed out from the left-hand panel. |
