HP will acquire Fortify Software, a privately held software security assurance company based in San Mateo, Calif., for undisclosed terms. The acquisition will allow HP to offer a solution that helps organizations reduce business risk, meet compliance and protect against malicious application attacks by integrating security assurance seamlessly across the application life cycle.
Fortify's Software Security Assurance products and services secure companies from the threats posed by security flaws in business-critical software applications. The company's customer list includes government agencies and FORTUNE 500 companies across industries such as financial services, healthcare, e-commerce, telecommunications, publishing, insurance, systems integration and information management.
HP and Fortify have earlier been collaborators in the February 2010 debut of "Hybrid 2.0," an advanced security analysis technology that strengthened an earlier integration announced in June 2009. With the acquisition, HP will accelerate development of this technology to give clients the accuracy and priority they need around security vulnerabilities to build scalable enterprise application security programs, the company statement said.
HP said that upon closing of the transaction, it will run Fortify initially as a standalone entity to ensure continuity while targeting the security market, and will integrate it over time its software and solutions business. Fortify's products will then be part of HP's business technology optimization application portfolio, available through its sales and service channels.
