Kaspersky Lab, a software developer for secure content management solutions and one of the largest European anti virus companies, has announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with African telecom giant MTN that will help protect MTN's customers' smartphones from a host of IT threats.
Launched in 1994, the MTN Group is a multinational telecommunications group, operating in 21 countries in Africa and the Middle East. As at the end of 2006, MTN recorded more than 40 million subscribers across its operations.
The strategic partnership will allow MTN's customers benefit from increased business mobility through the use of smartphones, laptops and even USB flash drives, by reducing the risks and possibilities for virus and other malware infections. To ensure sustainable protection for consumers, MTN has integrated Kaspersky Mobile Security 8.0 into a range of smartphones marketed and available through its stores. According to Kaspersky, the solution is unrivaled in terms of cutting-edge technologies, providing total protection against the wide range of threats facing smartphone users globally.
A statement from Kaspersky said that the multi-million rand deal would see all new contract customers with selected Nokia and HTC smartphones receive Kaspersky Mobile Security 8.0, which will help them safeguard their phones and confidential information from attacks by hackers and mobile worms that spread via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections. The roll-out of the first phase has commenced and will expand further over the coming months. As per the partnership, MTN customers can avail a free download of Kaspersky Mobile Security 8.0 from the MTN website or obtain a free activation key from MTN outlets.
Garry Kondakov, managing director for Kaspersky Lab EEMEA said his company's vision was to provide an “unprecedented level of protection from malware and other external threats. Partnership with the MTN group allows to us to pursue such a vision for Africa." |
