Korean consumer electronics giant LG is said to be readying an Android-based tablet PC for the market, which might hit the shelves by the end of the year.
Reports in the online media quoted LG's Korean language release that announced the company's intention to launch an Android-powered tablet PC sometime during the fourth quarter of 2010 as a part of its new Optimus line. LG already has a Windows 7 based tablet in the works, the UX10 tablet that it showcased at the recent Computex technology show in Taipei. Its Android tablet would compete almost head-to-head with Dell's Streak and arch rival Samsung's Galaxy Tape. HP's tablet is expected to run the Palm's WebOS, which it acquired along with the company recently, while it is common knowledge that Apple's iPad runs the iOS.
Though LG did not provide any information about the planned device, its said that running on the Android platform, the tablet would deliver superior performance as compared to “other similar devices currently on the market” and would be thinner and lighter than those competing devices. |
