Microsoft, inc. is a multinational company that develops a wide range of software products. The most profitable products are the Microsoft Windows operating system and the Microsoft Office suite of productivity software. The company was founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. Microsoft rose to dominate the home computer operating system market with MS-DOS in the mid-1980's, followed by the Windows line of operating systems. Windows is still the flagship product of the company, the current desktop version is Windows 7, released in 2009. The company now has three business divisions: the Microsoft Platform Products and Services Division, the Microsoft Business Division and the Microsoft Entertainment and Devices Division. Headquartered in Redmond, Washington, Microsoft has been the largest software company in the world for at least 8 years in a row.
