Microsoft says combining Sentillion’s products with its own Amalga Unified Intelligence System (UIS) will help health care professionals deliver better patient care by streamlining access to multiple IT applications and patient data. The financial terms of the acquisition, which is expected to close in early 2010, were not disclosed. In a statement, Microsoft said Sentillion will continue to sell and support its products to new and existing customers while Microsoft will work to evolve the combined portfolio of Sentillion and Microsoft health solutions. Sentillion also gets to retain its operations out of its own corporate headquarters in Andover, Mass. Microsoft's heightened interest in the healthcare IT market comes at a time when the market is expected to grow in the wake of US President Obama's mandate to digitize all citizens' healthcare records by 2014. By combining Sentillion’s context management and single sign-on technologies with Amalga UIS, a real-time data aggregation solution, Microsoft aims to give clinicians new insight about patients in real time and enable them to perform the appropriate task with unprecedented speed. At the same time, the workflow of clinicians will be simplified, allowing them to spend less time navigating different IT systems and more time with patients. Sentillion offers identity and access management systems for healthcare environments. Its customers include University of Pennsylvania Health System, the US Department of Veteran's Affairs, Kettering Health Network, and Texas Children's Hospital. |
