At the Mobile World Congress 2010, Microsoft Corp. CEO Steve Ballmer unveiled the next generation of Windows Phones, the Windows Phone 7 Series, which Microsoft says combines smart design and integrated experiences, and combines Xbox Live games and Zune music and video.
Microsoft said the new mobile software offers a fresh approach to phone software, “distinguished by smart design and truly integrated experiences that bring to the surface the content people care about from the Web and applications.” Windows Phone 7 brings together Xbox LIVE games and the Zune music and video experience for the mobile phone. The company said partners have started building phones with Windows Phone 7, and the first models would be available in stores by holiday 2010.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said “In a crowded market filled with phones that look the same and do the same things, I challenged the team to deliver a different kind of mobile experience. Windows Phone 7 Series marks a turning point toward phones that truly reflect the speed of people’s lives and their need to connect to other people and all kinds of seamless experiences.”
The Windows Phone 7 Series has a dynamically updated start screen with “live tiles” that show users real-time content directly. It features a dedicated hardware button for Bing to facilitate one-click search, and through six Windows Phone hubs of people, pictures, games, music and video, marketplace, and office that bring together related content from the Web, applications and services into a single view. These hubs are for specific themes, which Microsoft says mirrors activities that matter most to people. |
