Microsoft has announced that it will cease to support Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) on July 13, 2010, a date that was decided when Service Pack 3 was ![]() released on April 21, 2008. This is in line with the the comany's Support Lifecycle policy for Windows service packs, which states that when a new service pack is released, Microsoft will provide 24 months of support for the previous service pack for products that belong to the Windows product family. However, users of the 64-bit version of Windows XP SP2 are exempt as there is no SP3 for the 64-bit version. These users would be eligible for support and receive updates till the scheduled date in April 2014. All other users of Windows XP Service Pack 2 systems will need to upgrade to Service Pack 3, or to a newer version of Windows altogether for continued support and updates. |
