Microsoft has sent out snail-mail invitations to the media for a mystery event on April 12th at San Francisco, which is speculated to be the launch day for its latest “Pink” mobile phone.
The phone, which is rumored to run on a Windows CE based operating system, is said to have been designed by Danger Inc., a start up that Microsoft acquired in 2008 and is now a part of Microsoft's new Premium Mobile Experiences (PMX) team, a group within the Mobile Communications Business (MCB) of the Entertainment and Devices Division.
Windows Phone 7 is said to have its roots in the Windows CE core that has previous propelled Windows Phone and Windows Mobile, even though reports suggested that this time around the platform sported a completely new look and interface and would most likely not run programs created for earlier versions of the operating system.
Citing unnamed sources, a report by the Wall Street Journal said the new line of mobile phones would incorporate social-networking capabilities targeted at young consumers. The report said that Microsoft designed the software, online services and hardware for the Pink mobile phones and Japanese electronics major Sharp was the manufacturer.
Microsoft sent out intivations to the San Francisco media event for April 12th via snail-mail that carried the slogan, "It's time to share." The WSJ report said that Microsoft and Verizon Wireless spokespersons declined comment. The “Pink” phone is said to be slated for launch in partnership with Verizon Wireless. |
