Microsoft has unveiled nine new Windows Phone 7 handsets that will come to market this holiday season in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific, in partnership with leading mobile operators.
CEO Steve Ballmer called the lineup “beautiful” while terming it as the “first wave of Windows Phone 7 handsets.” Microsoft has partnered the who's who in global cellphone provides such as AT&T, Deutsche Telekom AG, O2, Orange, SingTel, Telstra, T-Mobile USA and Vodafone, and device manufacturers including Dell, HTC, LG and Samsung. Windows Phone 7 will ride on Qualcomm's Snapdragon hardware as common to devices across manufacturers.
Ballmer also said that Windows Phone 7 would help people do more with less, by providing “timely information in a ‘glance and go’ format.” The latest mobile OS from Microsoft also features “integrated experiences” including Xbox LIVE, Microsoft Office Mobile, Zune, Windows Live, and Bing. A customizable Start screen features personalized Live Tiles that allow people to see their own content packed with real-time updates from the Web such as news, appointments or the status of friends.
Additionally, gaming company EA unveiled its first games for Windows Phone 7, including the ever-popular titles of Need for Speed “Undercover,” Tetris, The Sims, and Monopoly. The platform will also incorporate the Zune music experience, with user's music collections synced that can either be synced wirelessly from their PCs, streamed or downloaded from Windows Marketplace. A dedicated search button helps users scan contact lists, email and online for whatever information they seek. As part of the mobile platform, Windows Live helps users to manage pictures, Windows Live calendar, and Office OneNote Mobile. |
