Opera Software, the developer of the popular mobile web browser Opera Mini has announced plans to bring out a version of the software for the iPhone at an exclusive press and partner preview during the 2010 Mobile World Congress (MWC).
Opera Mini is a web browser that uses its compression technology to make for significantly faster web-page loading and reduced data surcharges. It also builds in desktop features such as tabs, Speed Dial and a password manager. Opera says the Mini is designed with usability in mind. Reports suggested savings on data costs would be particularly significant for international travelers, specially if they use local SIM cards to use local 3G services that would virtually eliminate roaming costs.
Jon von Tetzchner, co-founder, Opera Software said journalists and partners would be offered an exclusive preview of the Opera Mini for iPhone at the 2010 Mobile World Congress. A company statement said that visitors to its stand without a press pass would not leave disappointed, as Opera plans to unveil a host of other Opera-powered devices at its exhibit. Amongst the exhibits at the MWC would be Opera Mobile 10 beta 3 on Symbian S60 and Windows Mobile handsets, Opera Mobile 10 beta on Android handsets, Opera Mini 5 beta on a variety of handsets and platforms, and Opera’s cross-platform Widgets Manager beta running on Windows Mobile and S60 handsets. The Opera Mini for iPhone is not yet publicly available. |
