Web browser company Opera Software has entered into a strategic technology partnership with GooMe Interactive, an innovative Over-The-Top (OTT) media solutions provider, to deliver modular Web-based solutions for experiencing TV, Web and home media for the Set-Top Box (STB) and DTV industry via IPTV and/or hybrid IP/Broadcast delivery.
Opera CEO Jon von Tetzchner said that both companies share a vision of bringing the web, added-value media content and Internet services to TV screens. "We both place high priority on adhering to open standards while at the same time offering a premium user experience and helping our customers' shorten their time to market," he said. Opera is known for its cross-platform web browser technology that provides standards compliance and a faster, safer and more dynamic online experience.
By combining Opera's Devices SDK with GooMe's OTT media solution, the duo plan to showcase a seamless and interactive user experience with the simplicity of single remote control access. Opera said that the solution would give operators, broadcasters and TV/set-top-box original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) access to an entire range of Internet and media services, ranging from traditional TV to home media streaming and On-Demand services such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.
According to Danny Peled, founder and CEO of GooMe Interactive, the cross-platform Opera-GooMe modular solution would be easily portable to any browser-powered device and would create a “real opportunity for 'TV Anywhere' convergence." GooMe Interactive enables Over-The-Top operators to offer TV, Web and home media content and services over any screen - TV, PC and / or mobile. The company has worked with leading operators including Vodafone, Orange and Tata Sky. |
