Oracle has announced its acquisition of Israeli telecom service broking and service capability interaction management (SCIM) network solutions company Convergin with a view to accelerate deployment of next-generation prepaid and value added services in the communications industry.
According to Convergin's website, these solutions aid carriers in realizing next generation service delivery platforms and converged charging solutions across their various underlying networks. Oracle hopes to accelerate the deployment of next-generation prepaid and value-added services in the communications industry through this acquisition. Reports suggested that the acquisition cost Oracle an estimated $70 – $100 million, though both companies were silent on the financial details of the transaction.
Convergin provides real-time service brokering solutions through its J2EE-based service broker platform that enables communications service providers (CSPs) to manage services for a wide range of networks and application platforms, including pre-paid charging. The solution allows CSPs to focus on launching innovative services while modernizing to next-generation networks.
“As communications service providers transition from legacy telephony networks to next-generation networks, the combination of Oracle and Convergin will accelerate new service innovation while reducing network complexity and cost,” said Bhaskar Gorti, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Communications.
In its statement, Oracle said more and more CSPs are looking to transition off inflexible and costly intelligent network platforms to deliver value-added services. It said the acquisition is expected to provide a single carrier-grade, standards-based IT platform allowing CSPs to effectively evolve their service delivery capabilities at a lower total cost of ownership. Convergin products, according to Oracle, complement its Oracle Communications’ integrated product suite, including Oracle Communications Billing and Revenue Management, Oracle Communications Converged Application Server and Oracle Communications service fulfillment applications.
The transaction is expected to close the first half of this year. |
