German software giant SAP AG is reported to be taking steps to reducing its losses in the TomorrowNow lawsuit filed against it by Oracle.
Last November, SAP was ordered by the jury of a federal court to pay $1.3 billion to Oracle in a copyright infringement case pertaining to TomorrowNow, a company SAP acquired. SAP now plans to initiate legal actions that will either help reduce the award, or “order a new trial.”
TomorrowNow had been accused by Oracle of pilfering numerous documents and copyright material and the amount awarded by the jury as damages reset all benchmarks for a copyright case in terms of the sheer size of the amount. SAP had maintained that it owed around $40 million for the infringement.
In a statement, SAP said that it believed the amount awarded to be “disproportionate and wrong.” |
