A US District Court judge has ruled that Oracle would be entitled to interest from SAP, in addition to the $1.3 billion damages that were awarded to it in November 2010. Oracle was reported to be seeking an additional $211.6 million in interest on from SAP, over an above the damages of $1.3 billion that it was awarded on November 23, 2010 in a copyright infringement case pertaining to a company called TomorrowNow that SAP had acquired.
Though the ruling favored the plaintiff, Oracle, SAP could rejoice in the quantum of payout, which according to the judge's method of calculation, based on the weekly average of one-year constant maturity Treasury yield, compounded annually, would be significantly less than Oracle's demand. Reports estimated the payout to eventually be in the range of $16 - $17 million, given the judge's way of calculating interest. |
