Steve Jobs, in an email statement to all Apple employees, has said that he would be taking the next six months off from the everyday running of Apple to focus on his health.
“I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company,” the statement read, adding that Tim Cook would be responsible for Apple’s day-to-day operations in Jobs' absence. “ I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy,” Jobs said in the email.
Steve Jobs' struggles with his health have included a battle with pancreatic cancer and a liver transplant over the past decade, during which time he has had to avail a medical leave of absence thrice. Investors and analysts alike rue the reluctance of Apple to part with information about the health of the company's CEO. Jobs is widely seen as Apple's core, inseparable and very integral to the company's fortunes. He founded Apple in 1976 and is credited with its turn around, including the development and market success of the company's ace products and brands – the iPod, iPhone, and most recently iPad. |
