John A. Swainson plans to retire later this year from his position as CEO. In five years time he oversaw the cleaning of CAs books, the installation of a sound financial control structure, changed the revenue reporting procedures, and worked to give back CA the respect it had lost in previous years.
In 2004 CA was confronted with accounting malpractices, overly aggressive sales tactics, and excessive rewards. Former CEO Sanjay Kumar is currently serving 12 years in jail for his role in the scandal. John A. Swainson, at the time VP of sales at IBM Software, was asked on board by CA to clean ship. Now he feels his job is done: “I am very proud that the CA team has largely accomplished the goal we set five years ago. We have restored CA’s business momentum,” Swainson said.
A committee of the company’s board of directors has been formed to begin an immediate search for Swainson’s successor. |
