Microsoft has released its Windows Phone Mango operating system to manufacturers.
In a blogpost, Microsoft's Terry Myerson said the Windows Phone development team released “Mango,” the latest version of the Windows Phone operating system, to manufacturing. The code now moves to handset manufacturers and mobile operators for them to optimize the OS for their specific phone and network configurations. The Windows Phone team will now shift its focus to preparing for the update process, which will come come pre-installed on new Windows Phones starting this fall.
Mango boasts new features and upgrades, including conversation view for email, and “Threads” that unify my text, IM, and Facebook chat into one conversation. It also builds in multitasking, and the Internet Explorer 9 browser for fast web browsing and support for new HTML 5 web sites. Microsoft said there are 'hundreds' of other features and improvements in the mobile OS.
Manufacturers of Windows Phones include HTC, Samsung, Acer, ZTE, LG, and Nokia, the Finnish mobile manufacturer which abandoned its co-owned Meego platform and established Symbian operating system to favor Microsoft's Windows platform earlier this year. |
