TeliaSonera's mobile broadband commercial network in Stockholm now has the distinction of being the fastest in the world. LTE, the next generation mobile communication technology, is designed for transferring huge amounts of data in a most cost and energy efficient way, optimizing the use of frequency band and realizing fiber-like access speeds over the air.
In a statement marking the launch, Carl-Henric Svanberg, President and CEO of Ericsson said, "The new era of mobile broadband has just begun today. With LTE, so-called 4G, your mobile broadband experience is moving to unequalled levels. The LTE speed gives you an absolutely effortless feeling of broadband access."
The LTE network offers decreased latency that enables consumers to enjoy a variety of services available online, including HD video, network games and other data-intensive applications. Kenneth Karlberg, President and Head of Mobility Services, TeliaSonera said his company was “very proud” to be the first operator in the world to offer 4G services. Having partnered with Ericsson, TeliaSonera rolled out the 4G service earlier than originally planned.
Ericsson provides TeliaSonera with a Long Term Evolution (LTE) or 4G system including the new RBS6000 series LTE Radio Base stations. Downtown Stockholm is covered with the Ericsson LTE network, the largest LTE deployment to date. TeliaSonera's customers are the first to have access to the LTE service using the commercially available Samsung LTE dongles. Ericsson said that it has completed the commercialization of its LTE products and larger production is ready for further deployment. Its interoperability has also been tested with many different devices in different operators' networks.
