Gaming company Zynga has been accused of infringing on patents by another game company, Agincourt Gaming. The latter is seeking a virtual shutdown around a dozen Zynga's games on Facebook, including popular titles such as FarmVille and Mafia Wars, in addition to damages. and asking that it shut down its most popular games for the Facebook social network, including FarmVille and Mafia Wars.
Agincourt Gaming, a company that also has games running on the social networking site Facebook has filed a complaint with the District Court in Delaware, saying that Zynga had infringed two of its patents that date back to 1996 and pertain to redeeming virtual prizes in online games. Agincourt, in its complaint, has said that Zynga's business model copies creative ideas and game designs from other developers “and then use its market power to bulldoze the games' originators.”
Less than two months ago, Zynga filed for an initial public offering of up to $1 billion. The gaming company is already in a legal tussle with Vostu, a Brazilian gaming company in connection with infringement of copyright. |
